Education/Credentials
Maria Gillard has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a concentration in Voice from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.
She worked as a Primary School music teacher for three years, and as a teaching artist for the Aesthetic Education Institute. She teaches private guitar and voice lessons in her home. She is a voice instructor at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY, and also directs the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
She holds journal-writing workshops at her home and occasionally at Writers and Books in Rochester. Her course, Create a Radio Show, for kids is a smash hit every summer at Writers and Books. This is a fun filled course where kids write news stories, hold talk shows, and write songs and commercials inspired by old time radio shows. Visit Writers and Books for more information on the program.
Maria also sings in area Nursing Homes and Senior living centers, where she is quite revered for her eclectic mix of songs.
More information also on the recordings and timeline pages.
"One of Rochester's premier singer-songwriters and torch carrier, Maria Gillard's easy-going style is a trap, drawing the listener into lyrics that stare straight into the sun."
